Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Pacifica offers optional Emergency Vehicle Alert System, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.

To deliver safety and visibility under dusty conditions the Chrysler Pacifica’s backup monitor has a standard rear washer to keep the view clear. A camera washer system costs extra on the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

Both the Pacifica and the Equinox EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Chrysler Pacifica is safer than the Chevrolet Equinox EV:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Chrysler Pacifica is safer than the Chevrolet Equinox EV:

Warranty

The Pacifica’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Equinox EV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Chrysler Pacifica’s reliability 17 points higher than the Equinox EV.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Pacifica second among minivans in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The Equinox EV isn’t in the top three in its category.

Engine

The Pacifica Hybrid’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6 hybrid produces 40 more horsepower (260 vs. 220) than the Equinox EV’s standard electric motor.

As tested in Motor Trend the Chrysler Pacifica V6 is faster than the Chevrolet Equinox EV electric motor:

Fuel Economy and Range

The Pacifica Hybrid’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 527 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Equinox EV’s range is only 307 to 319 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 30 minutes for only a 74% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 9 hours and 24 minutes.

The Pacifica Hybrid has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The Equinox EV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Pacifica’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Equinox EV:

Tires and Wheels

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the Pacifica can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The Pacifica has a standard space-saver spare (not available on Hybrid) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Equinox EV; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Pacifica’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Pacifica’s wheelbase is 5.3 inches longer than on the Equinox EV (121.6 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Pacifica is 4.9 inches wider in the front and 4.7 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Equinox EV.

Chassis

The Chrysler Pacifica may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

The front grille of the Pacifica uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Pacifica uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Pacifica offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Equinox EV can only carry 5.

The Pacifica has 62.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Equinox EV (165.1 vs. 102.2).

The Pacifica has .9 inches more front headroom, 3 inches more front hip room, 5.2 inches more front shoulder room, 1.1 inches more rear headroom, 1 inch more rear legroom, 14.1 inches more rear hip room and 7.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the Equinox EV.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Pacifica’s middle and third row seats recline. The Equinox EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Pacifica’s cargo area provides more volume than the Equinox EV.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the Pacifica. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Pacifica’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Equinox EV’s (3600 vs. 1500 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Pacifica’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The Pacifica’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Equinox EV’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

The Pacifica’s standard Keyless-Enter-N-Go allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the van, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Access standard on the Equinox EV doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Pacifica’s standard sliding doors can be opened with less than three inches side clearance. The Equinox EV’s standard rear swing-out doors are bulky and make loading in tight spots difficult.

The Pacifica’s power side sliding doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the van. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer a power rear door.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Pacifica to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Pacifica’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Equinox EV.

The Pacifica’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Equinox EV offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Chrysler Pacifica and Chevrolet Equinox EV offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Pacifica offers available power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Equinox EV’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The Pacifica has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The Pacifica has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Equinox EV.

The Chrysler Pacifica has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Chevrolet charges extra for Homelink® on the Equinox EV.

The Pacifica offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Equinox EV doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Chrysler Pacifica, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Chevrolet Equinox EV isn't recommended.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Pacifica as the 2017 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Equinox EV has never been chosen.
