For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Jeep Grand Cherokee are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The VinFast VF 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Grand Cherokee are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Grand Cherokee Overland/Summit helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s optional 360-degree camera offers optional integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the VinFast VF 8 lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Both the Grand Cherokee and the VF 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is safer than the VinFast VF 8:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is safer than the VinFast VF 8:

Warranty

The Grand Cherokee’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the VF 8’s (unlimited vs. 125000 miles).

Jeep pays for scheduled maintenance on the Grand Cherokee for 2 years and unlimited miles. Jeep will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 2 visits). VinFast doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the VF 8.

There are over 68 times as many Jeep dealers as there are VinFast dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Grand Cherokee’s warranty.

Engine

The Grand Cherokee 4xe’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 13 lbs.-ft. more torque (470 vs. 457) than the VF 8 Plus’ standard electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Grand Cherokee 4xe running on electricity gets better mileage than the VF 8 Plus (57 city/56 hwy vs. 46 city/42 hwy MPGe).

The Grand Cherokee 4xe’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 482 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The VF 8’s range is only 235 to 256 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 31 minutes for only a 70% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 12 hours.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Grand Cherokee has larger standard tires than the VF 8 (245/70R17 vs. 225/55R19). The Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the VF 8 (275/45R21 vs. 245/45R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve has standard 21-inch wheels. The VF 8’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Grand Cherokee has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The VF 8 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Grand Cherokee offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the VF 8; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The VF 8 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Grand Cherokee offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The VF 8’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Grand Cherokee offers an optional automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Grand Cherokee’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better maneuverability, the Grand Cherokee’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the VF 8’s (38 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Grand Cherokee has a 1.6 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 8 (8.4 vs. 6.8 inches), allowing the Grand Cherokee to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Air Suspension’s minimum ground clearance is 4.1 inches higher than on the VF 8 (10.9 vs. 6.8 inches).

Chassis

The Jeep Grand Cherokee may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 50 to 1150 pounds less than the VinFast VF 8.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Grand Cherokee has standard flush composite headlights. The VF 8 has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The front grille of the Grand Cherokee uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The VF 8 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Grand Cherokee offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The VF 8 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Cargo Capacity

The Grand Cherokee has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the VF 8 with its rear seat up (37.7 vs. 13.2 cubic feet). The Grand Cherokee has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the VF 8 with its rear seat folded (70.8 vs. 48.4 cubic feet).

Payload and Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the VinFast VF 8 is limited to 3968 pounds. The Grand Cherokee offers up to a 6200 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Grand Cherokee uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The VF 8 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Grand Cherokee has a much higher standard payload capacity than the VF 8 (1240 vs. 992 lbs.).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the VF 8 Plus, the Grand Cherokee Overland Luxury Tech/Summit has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster), outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Grand Cherokee to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The VF 8 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Grand Cherokee’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The VF 8’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Grand Cherokee Overland Luxury Tech/Summit has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the VF 8.

Compared to the VinFast VF 8, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited/4xe/Overland/Summit eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the driver’s visor.

The Grand Cherokee is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the VF 8, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the Grand Cherokee offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the VF 8.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the Grand Cherokee equipped with HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The VF 8, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the Jeep Grand Cherokee empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.

The Grand Cherokee (except Laredo A) offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Grand Cherokee Summit’s Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The VF 8 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Grand Cherokee is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee outsold the VinFast VF 8 by almost 47 to one during 2024.
